Hey folks! Chiming in to say that we have just opened pre-orders for The Idles! They will only be open for a short while, so make sure you get yours soon.
I really appreciate the support from everyone who has been following my recent posts. This is a challenging project to carry, and your interest truly means a lot. I also hope some of you had the chance to try the demo over the weekend; I can’t wait to hear your thoughts.
I’m going to level with you all: I don’t want to be a publisher. I don’t intend to make a living out of this. I thought long and hard about it, and I don't want to get caught up in commercial interests. That would invariably mean making games even when I don’t want to or have nothing to share. I want this to remain a hobby for me, not "work."
The only thing I know for sure is that I am going to design three games in my career: Caper, The Idles, and a new one that is currently heavy in development. I plan to support all of them as long as you guys are interested, with the help of Babll. I don’t believe in the need to make many games; I just want to ensure the few I do make are special—works of love sustained over time. This doesn’t mean I will absolutely never make another game, but rather that I have no plans to do so at the moment.
Therefore, this print run for The Idles is extremely important. First, because it is a very limited "boutique" run; a lot of love has been put into the production. Second, I am not sure we will be able to do many more, given the state of the world. I don't believe that printing cheaply in China and distributing boxes halfway across the globe will remain a sustainable affair for "garage" board game designers like us in the near future.
What about the US?
This is doubly true for the US. I am immensely grateful for the audience there and the support I have received over the years for Caper: Europe. It was unexpected and meant a lot. I want to return that appreciation by offering the game at the same price point as Europe - not accounting for currency changes: $35 USD.
Despite tariffs and huge distribution costs - which basically mean we won’t make much profit - I want to keep it accessible. Even if we were to do a second print run, the price would almost certainly have to increase for the US. Additionally, while the game will be shipped to everyone who pre-orders, I cannot guarantee retailer availability. This is an ongoing situation, so I’ll keep you in the loop. All I can say is that we will try.
That said, I can’t wait to get my hands on the final copy of this game! I hope you guys enjoy it nearly as much as I do.
